ABOUT ME
Hello! My name is Noah Shoaf. I am a college graduate from Brigham Young University-Hawaii. I majored in Political Science with a minor in Theatre and certifications in Legal Studies, International Peacebuilding, and International Development. BYUH is one of the most culturally diverse schools in the U.S. During my time at BYUH, I was accepted to present an experimental design on racial biases within criminal sentencing at Midwest Political Science Conference. I also landed lead roles in the touring theatre production of "Green Lady" and was "Baby John" in "West Side Story."
I have ambitions to become a Foreign Service Officer after graduation, but I am also interested in journalism, non-profit work, and public policy. I interned remotely with the U.S. State Department for U.S. Embassy Banjul, assisting the Public Affairs Section at the U.S. Embassy in Banjul, The Gambia, helping them run a campaign to encourage compliance with COVID-19 prevention. I also Designed branded graphics for social media campaigns and created campaign posters and flyers to deliver to schools. I led two Zoom forums about women in government and applying for U.S. grants.

I've previously worked as the co-editor-in-chief for the BYU–Hawaii newspaper, the Ke Alaka'i. With my role as Co-Editor-in-Chief, I lead 15 writers and artists to publish a comprehensive and accurate monthly magazine, even with COVID-19 restrictions. I reviewed factual accuracy and AP style consistency on 6-9 stories a week for 19 hours. I was the Ke Alaka'i Instagram Admin, monitoring analytics and traffic sources, created engaging daily posts by photographing events and compiling videos. I implemented a new posting strategy resulting in 250+ new followers and 50+ average more likes. Before I was promoted to Copy Editor and Co-Editor-in-Chief, I wrote three stories a week– student features, campus and community events, and editorials. I wrote the Jan. 2018 cover story on mental health. My Feb. 2018 LGBTQ+ article increased access to school LGBTQ+ policy and the creation of LGTBQ+ Chapter. My LGBTQ+ article won Top 10 Diversity Story of the Year in the nationwide ACP Pacemaker awards
Outside of my work and school, I am a member of the Prelaw Society presidency and a coordinator for the Affirmation Hawaii Chapter. With Prelaw Society, I have been VP of Communications, Academics and Service while being the Instagram and Facebook Admin. I coordinate service projects and set up LSAT study groups. I am a certified volunteer and advocate for the NGO “Ho`ōla Nā Pua” where I recruited new volunteers. I have completed 20 hours of University service maintaining Hawaiian archeological sites. I also designed a new website and worked on marketing for a Tedx event.
